How are the holidays celebrated in Turks and Caicos?
Christmas celebrations in TCI tend to be elegant and understated, rather than tacky and overwhelming. Spend the holidays in Providenciales and you'll see Grace Bay lit up by twinkling lights, beautiful Christmas trees and decorations in most of the resorts, and festive menu options at many of the restaurants. In other words, there's plenty of Christmas spirit if you want it, but if avoiding the fanfare is more your scene, that's also easy to do.
On 26th December (Boxing Day) a less traditional celebration takes place. The Maskanoo parade is a colourful and vibrant street parade that makes its way along Grace Bay Road and features elaborate costumes, local music, island food, and lots of fun.
New Year's Eve is a very special night in Providenciales. In addition to a massive bonfire on the beach, a dozen or more resorts on Grace Bay set off simultaneous fireworks displays, filling the sky from one end of the bay to the other, with colour and lights. It's a truly magical sight.
What is the weather like in Providenciales at Christmas?
Turks and Caicos boasts perfect tropical weather during the festive season. It's pleasantly warm but not too hot, with air temperatures in the mid 70s to low 80s F (24° C to 28° C). Sea temperatures stay around 80° F (27°C) - perfect for swimming and water sports - and with 350 days of sunshine a year, blue skies are almost guaranteed.
